How to save money when ordering pizza from Pizza Hut, Papa John's or Domino's Pizza

If there's one thing that most people can agree on, it's that pizza makes a great meal.  But pizza prices have been creeping up along with the delivery fees, taxes and tips.  So how can you be sure you're getting the best deal?  Well, you can follow some of my tips for starters!

1.  Carry out if at all possible.  Most pizza places have great deals but only for carry out.  You can still order online or through the mobile app but you can definitely get a break in price by not having your pizza delivered.  Some specials are only good for carry out.  You technically don't have to tip but a dollar or two is still nice.

2.  If you must have it delivered, try Sarpino’s!  They still have free delivery but unfortunately Saprino's is mainly in the mid-west.  Check your local pizza joints.  Many still offer free delivery as it's an edge over the big three.  But if you do order from Pizza Hut, Papa John's or Domino's Pizza for delivery, keep in mind that the delivery fee is not a tip so that's another few bucks!

3.  ALWAYS check the specials page.  This is the scam of most pizza joints.  Well, not really scam but it's how they operate.  Take a peak at the full menu prices at Papa John's and then look at the specials and you'll likely see that the price difference can be 50% or more.  Right now, the full price for a large specialty pizza is $21 but the price on the specials page is $13.  So be careful of other offers like 25% or 50% off because that's off the full menu prices.   You may get a coupon in your email and the specials on the website may very well be cheaper!  So it pays to spend a few minutes checking the deals.  You might want a medium pizza but it might be cheaper to get a large.

4.  NEVER order without a coupon or special!  If you order off the menu, you're paying FULL price which is what they want you to do.  They WILL NOT tell you that you could save 50% using a coupon.  You have to already know this.

5.  Join the rewards program.  Pizza Hut, Papa John's or Domino's Pizza all have rewards programs now which can earn you free pizzas, bread sticks or other items. These usually go based on what you actually spend while you can get bonus points sometimes for ordering certain items.  In general, it's a good deal.  But of course, if you have a free pizza delivered, you still have to pay the delivery fee and tip so best to combine a reward with a large order.

6.  If you're old school and still order by phone, ALWAYS ask if they have any specials if you don't have a coupon.  Again, I reiterate, they will not freely offer discounts, you must ask!

7.  Order some for now, some for later.  Due to the big delivery fees nowadays, you might consider ordering an extra pizza or two, especially if you get a good coupon special.  Wrap the extra pizza in foil and toss it in the freezer for a rainy day.
